ReDeYe interviewed by The San Francisco OPTX!
Written by Luke Cotton

Over on the San Francisco Optx website , QuadV Director and lead CGS Commentator Paul "ReDeYe" Chaloner has given an in depth interview to the Optx's General Manager Kat Hunter. After Hunter's team missed out on a spot at the CGS World Finals despite finishing 2nd in the Region 1 Qualifiers, she's been running a series of interviews, and this week's, with ReDeYe, can be read here.

Hunter: Right before World Finals, QuadV announced that you would be supplying shoutcaster talent, GGL was out of the picture, and you took on the largest TV role we have seen to date. I would call it a co-host position as well as adding to the original shoutcasting responsibilities you shared in the US Season. This is not a small jump. Were you at all scared? Worried? Nervous? All of the above?

ReDeYe: Nervous yes, scared no. It was a huge step up for me personally although vaing Stuart alongside was different to having Wheat with me, I was of course confident Stuart would do a great job, so whilst it was huge for us at QuadV, it didnt worry me at all.

It was, as you said however, much more of a co-host role and in fact that was how it was explained to me by Mike Burks when we met up a few days before the first show and I will admit I was very nervous about it, especially when I saw the first show rundown and script. It had my name all over it and then it dawned on me how big this was and how much more responsibility this involved.

I think in hindsight, I should have prepared more for the change in role than I did. I spent most of my time learning the players, teams and previous results than I did thinking about the new role and that hurt me on the first show. I know a lot of people said to me after they thought I did a great job, but Burks and I both knew I had missed an awful lot and I just hadn't been my usual self during the show. Some of that was down to a lack of preparation for the role and the other part was the underestimation I had on the size of the role.

I also think it had a little to do with my mental state of mind too. I felt like I was stepping in to big shoes in WHEAT's absence, but after a chat with Burks on Thursday night after the show and better preparation on Friday morning (I came in to the studio at 9am instead of 12pm) I realised I wasn't really replacing Marcus (how on earth can you??) and I didnt have to fill his considerably large shoes, I just had to be me and enjoy it again.

Once I got over that mental hurdle and prepared better and longer each day, I felt I did a better job. The addition of Andrew Sciciliano helped me too as he is the consummate professional and I learnt an awful lot from him during the shows too.

Statements

EYE|mintr - "We are looking forward to tonights game against Oxmoze. Hopefully we can stay true to our form and stick to our game plan and take this game home. I want to thank crossfire for a great cup and all of our opponents so far for good games and my team mates for performing on top. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!"

oXmoze-vazy - "We started the match against DIE quite confidently, but really carefully. We knew we were the underdog and had to prove everything to the community, but we managed to get the win at the end of a really tense and long match. I'm really proud of my team mates who all played very nice during the match. As for the final I can't really say what's going happen because each team can have a lucky day and win. We're still considered underdogs though and I have to admit that we love that situation. Let's see what is going to happen!"
